As funders work to increase equity for schools, the fact that one in every four education dollars goes toward paying down pension debts can hamstrings efforts. Spending diverted away from classrooms to pay down over $500 billion in debt nationwide (pre-COVID-19) impacts what happens in and outside of schools. Leaders need smart ways to address these challenges and direct more dollars directly to teachers and students. This session will use a data walk to help participants understand pension costs and help educational investments reach students, especially those from marginalized communities.
