The Impact of COVID-19 on Summer Learning Programs
Notes from The Impact of COVID-19 on Summer Learning Programs
The third of Grantmakers for Education’s Out-of-School Time Impact Group video chats focuses on how grantmakers can support the out-of-school time and summer learning sector to address potential support, planning and adaptation needed for summer programming in light of emerging challenges from COVID-19. Providers will be juggling multiple questions such as what the stimulus package provides; what resources schools will be able to provide; how much emphasis will be needed on catch-up learning; whether programs need to be virtual and how to structure virtual programs; how to create safe, hygienic spaces if programs are on site; how to ensure quality and quantity of staff in light of current layoffs; and more.
Aaron Dworkin, chief executive officer of the National Summer Learning Association and Chris Smith, president and executive director of Boston After School & Beyond will kick off the discussion. Marlyn Torres, corporate vice president of New York Life Foundation will facilitate. Join the ongoing conversation about the urgent issues facing the OST field and learners that rely on these programs. Register here.
A fourth OST video chat will follow on Friday April 10, covering actions funders are taking to support OST and a possible coordinated funder response.
