There is new momentum around the movement toward racial justice, yet race relations in America have rarely been so perilous. Students and young people are at the foreground of this mobilization. On Day 5, we will take up the challenge of how philanthropy can best support this transformative movement. Darrick Hamilton, executive director of the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at Ohio State University, will frame the issue of racial justice through the lens of economic inequality, exploring the causes of the racial wealth gap between Black and white Americans and its effect on learners. Jule Hall, program officer at Ascendium Education Group, will reflect on his path from incarceration through his present work in philanthropy. Tulaine Montgomery, managing partner at New Profit, will share her insights on supporting visionary leaders from underrepresented communities. Conference planning committee chair, Nicole Rodriguez Leach of the Aprendes Foundation, will facilitate a provocative discussion between the presenters. The final day of the conference will culminate with Michelle Molitor of The Equity Lab introducing  a new partnership between her organization and Grantmakers for Education that will help members to go deeper together on our work in racial justice.
