A global social movement calling for racial justice has exploded worldwide while we experience a crisis of democracy in the US. Social movement organizing is a skilled practice used by labor and community organizations to win transformative policy change. In 2019, the Heising-Simons Foundation funded a collaboration between the UC Berkeley Social Movement Center and the National Women’s Law Center to document the use of organizing in childcare policy advocacy, evaluate its impact, and educate funders on how to measure and support organizing efforts.
