Authentic Community Engagement Part 2: Listening to and Learning from Leaders of Color in the COVID-19 Crisis

Over the past several years, many grantmakers have begun to prioritize racial equity in their grantmaking. This has included supporting greater representation by leaders of color in the education nonprofit space. In this crisis moment, the fragile and limited progress that has been made is at risk. Leaders of color, often most trusted in their communities, need capital to survive and serve their missions. What is the experience of leaders of color in this moment? How can philanthropy prioritize racial equity in its crisis response?

Join a discussion between Xiomara Padamsee, founder and CEO of Promise 54, Layla Avila, CEO and executive director of Education Leaders of Color, and Nick Donohue, president and CEO of Nellie Mae Education Foundation. Celine Coggins, executive director of Grantmakers for Education, will introduce the program and facilitate questions and discussion with attendees.

Monthly Master Class

The purpose of the Monthly Master Class is to engage in deeper learning together and practice talking across difference. On the first Friday of each month, Grantmakers for Education hosts an interview-based webinar. Each session is anchored by reflections from one to two members and a nonprofit or academic leader and includes time for questions and collaborative sense-making among presenters and attendees.
