Across the country, states are moving to weighted student funding formulas to address inequitable school funding. Evidence from California’s Local Control Funding Formula indicates that equitable funding alone is not sufficient for achieving equity goals. Adequate base funding, inclusive community engagement, and stakeholder capacity are all necessary parts of the equity equation. In this interactive session, participants will simulate the budget decision-making process in a variety of real-world scenarios to highlight the effect these three factors have on how education dollars get spent.
