EPWG Webinar: From the Statehouse to the Classroom

Although more education grantmakers than ever are engaging in the public policy process, most focus on the front end of the process: policy development and enactment. As a whole, funders are overlooking the high-leverage opportunities to support policy implementation, where new policies must be translated back down to changes at the program and classroom level. To address this, GFE held a three-day program in partnership with Harvard’s Graduate School of Education (HGSE) where we analyzed successful grantmaking around policy implementation and introduced a policy implementation framework. To highlight these key takeaways, James Honan, HGSE Senior Lecturer and experienced GFE case study facilitator, will guide us through an engaging web seminar that will also feature a brief case study on The Schumann Fund for New Jersey’s implementation efforts.

Speakers

James Honan has served on the faculty at the Harvard School of Education since 1991 and is currently a Senior Lecturer. He is also a faculty member at the Harvard Kennedy School, a principal of the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University, and Co-Chair and Senior Associate Director of the Advanced Leadership Initiative at Harvard University. 

Barbara Reisman has served as the executive director of The Schumann Fund for New Jersey since 1997. Previously she served as the executive director of the Child Care Action Campaign. She is on the board of directors for Grantmakers for Education, a member of the steering committee of the Early Childhood Funders Collaborative and a trustee of the Annenberg Institute for School Reform.
