Webinar: Ensuring Aligned and Effective Instructional Materials for the Common Core

Program Dates
Tuesday, May 27, 2014 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM PT

The Common Core State Standards provide American schools a higher, internationally comparable performance benchmark that promotes deeper learning correlated with college and career readiness. As the Common Core is implemented across the nation, districts and states must address several interrelated system elements simultaneously—one of the most critical being aligned materials driving instruction in classrooms every day.

States and districts must quickly become good consumers of common-core products and not just accept that when materials— like curriculum, textbooks and lessons plans—claim to be common-core-aligned, that they actually are.

During this webinar, grantmakers will have the opportunity to understand more deeply the research on instructional materials, tools for assessing quality and current information on the state of alignment in the field.

Webinar Topics

The research and resources highlighted during this webinar will support local, regional and national funders in investing in and scaling efforts to support high-quality aligned materials. Dr. Bill Schmidt, Distinguished Professor from Michigan State University, will discuss current research on alignment of materials to the Common Core and Amy Deslattes, Instructional Strategist from Lafayette Schools in Louisiana, will describe the recent state process in selecting materials and how they engaged educators in this work.

Register today and join the conversation as we convene thought leaders to share practices and strategies for supporting smart investments in high-quality Common Core-aligned instructional materials. This webinar is the second in a series to highlight tools and activities for funders who are currently supporting Common Core implementation, or who are interested in doing so.
