Public Policy Leadership Institute

Program Dates
June 29 – July 1, 2015

One of the most pressing issues across the education spectrum is the impact of public policy and advocacy on education. Philanthropists struggle with the changing policy landscape as they consider sustainability or scaling of investments focused in improving learner outcomes and opportunities from early learning to K-12 to higher education.

GFE’s national network of philanthropists have gathered biannually at Harvard Graduate School of Education to engage in a deeper analysis of education grantmaking. As we look to prepare for the future, we determined we could not wait another year in supporting interested members in collaborative national dialogue. GFE will be hosting a special policy institute this year in Washington, D.C, the capital of the nation and the heart of political deliberation.

Grantmakers for Education Public Policy Leadership Institute will take place from June 29 - July 1, 2015. Participants will examine how philanthropy can maximize its impact through a better understanding of the intersection between national, state and local public policy. This program is by invitation only, designed for senior executives and members of your selected team—from within and beyond your organization—who serve as critical partners in improving your organization's advocacy and policy strategy. Participants will be provided with quality time to interact with policy experts, understand trends, and reflect on local implications and adjustments needed to advance present and future investments. We anticipate this will be the first of year-long place-based and online conversations. This annual agenda will be outlined by the charter members of this institute.

GFE is future-facing and seeks to build on the great foundation of the past, understand the realities facing public education in the present, and proactively help our members prepare for future challenges and opportunities. This institute is a unique and inspiring venue that will foster new ideas and more strategic ways of working together to take action in the spirit of improving outcomes for all learners, today and tomorrow.
