Leveraging the Opportunity that Out-of-School Time Brings to Common Core

Program Dates
August 6, 2014

Description

Although Common Core implementation has focused almost exclusively on the K12 classroom, the OST sector has a valuable role to play in this enormous effort. Out-of-school time educators can support Common Core-aligned pedagogy and activities in their own programs, and also provide valuable help to schools in designing and teaching the hands-on, collaborative, and project-based learning activities that can become the hallmark of the Common Core-aligned classroom. But what conditions need to be in place for this to happen? What are the challenges, and opportunities, for OST and for schools, of collaborating on Common Core implementation? What are the implications for the systems and policies that support schools and the out-of-school time sector?

Join GFE’s OST Funder Network and your grantmaker colleagues on this webinar to delve into the experiences of funders, practitioners and intermediary leaders and discuss these and other topical questions related to OST and the Common Core. Speakers include:

  • Gina Dalma, Program Officer, Silicon Valley Community Foundation
  • Muhammed Chaudhry, President & CEO, Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF)
  • Nazaneen Khalilnaji-Otto, Summer Matters Campaign Manager, Partnership for Children and Youth
  • Mary L. Perry, Consultant, Partnership for Children and Youth
