The Education Grantmakers Institute is a biennial program offered to education funders interested in a small-group format that allows rigorous investigation of relevant and pressing issues in education and philanthropy.

Join us this April as we explore philanthropy's role in political and social equity, guided by Harvard faculty and expert practitioners. Learn more about the speakers here.

National education policy is in flux. As education policy shifts from federal to state and local oversight, questions arise about learners’ rights and how to ensure equitable access to quality education for all learners across the states. The 2018 Education Grantmakers Institute will provide the opportunity for education funders to ask important questions about our part in the development of education policy during this historic transition, such as:

  • What are the key challenges and opportunities in addressing equity in education policy and social justice?
  • What voices are absent in policy development that need to be included to ensure equity?
  • What are the economic implications of local and national policy decisions?
  • How can philanthropic organizations ensure the alignment between policy making and social justice?

Led by Harvard faculty and expert practitioners in a small group setting, participants in the Education Grantmakers Institute will explore challenging questions like these, on issues of political and social equity in education policy. This thought-provoking and participatory program is designed to ensure in-depth discussions on funders' challenges and questions.
